Passion.  Imagination & Inspiration. 
Oil, oil and more oil. 
Canvases.
Paint brushes, more colours, mistakes, corrections, more passion...
Happiness when the lines are right, frustration when they go wrong. 
Several cups of tea. One or two biscuits.
Someone from your family moaning in the background because some painting got spread somewhere (if no family available a landlord would do),  and a lot of patience which comes naturally with the passion above.
